Good Quality - This a good Quality sample of garage, which is basically upmarket pop music, It contains some pretty cool songs, yeah I recommend it.
A solid compilation but a bit disappointing - I love Arful Dodger. You never know what kind of new sounds will come out when they mix/scratch from their diverse music collection of house, hip-hop, raggae, and r&B. However, on this REWIND album, it sounds like the DJs just selected popular house/garage tunes and put it together using either a computer or just simple beat-match mixing between each songs. The music is good--solid house/garage music good for experimentation. I wish Artful Dodger could have show-cased their talents for creativity with the songs they picked out. But, unfortunately, most songs remain untouched, un-explored, un-experimented, but only to be played in their original, and most popular versions. Also, one thing lacking in this album is the use of old-skool hip-hop and older (US) house music. A mixture of new and old would have been great. But instead, the album contains only relatively new songs. MAybe I am demanding too much. Perhaps it s because I ve heard these tunes so many times before, I am asking for something more unique and creative. I expected more from Artful DOdgers because I know they are excellent. If you are new to garage music, this is actually a good album to have. If you own several UK garage albums, you might take a look at the song list before buying this. Many songs have been on several compilation albums already. By the way, I find disc 2 to be more house than garage.
Excelent - This compilation is the true sound of UK Garage. This cd holds some true quality tracks such as, MJ Cole - Sincere, which is only this week getting a release. I would just like to point out that this cd has nothing to do with house music, it is a pure garage compilation.
Rewind The Sound Of UK garage - The First CD of this compilation is probably the best bit of mixing i have heard. With classic cuts such as the title track Rewind and B15 project-Girls Like This make this a classic garage CD. The second CD is a bit dodgy but can pass through as being alright. Check out the remix of Paul Johnson-Get Down which is another classic cut. If you re into garage buy this now, but if you re not you d better give it a miss.
Seamless hits mix from the UK Garage scene. - This mix by hit producers The Artful Dodger (the mix is utterly seamless and so probably done on a computer) is a primer for the latest in UK Garage which emphasizes the 2-Step beat that has taken over and transformed what was formerly (and inappropriately) called Speed Garage. Be prepared for American-style RnB vocals, Ragga MCs, house textures, and the infectious 2-Step groove. Most of the scene s non-white label anthems are here along with a few 4-to-the-floor standards from 97- 98.
